Bontak fires up the workshop in Niseko in mid-October with the approach of the Northern Hemisphere winter.
The machines hum until the end of the season in April. Bontak spends the off season in Queenstown, New Zealand chasing the endless winter as a big-mountain skier, ski model and photographer.
Bontak was born in the Nagano prefecture Suwa-cho on August 27, 1981. Bontak developed a love of freeskiing and a Kiwi accent after attending high school and university in New Zealand. He worked as a ski technician in Dunedin and Queenstown before opening the imaginatively-named "BONTAK tune & repair" in Niseko in 2006
Bontak learned to ski chasing his father in the resorts around Suwa. Skiing powder for the first time at the age of 12 in Kumanoyu was a life-changing experience. Bontak refined his love of, and style riding, powder snow in the resorts around Wanaka and Queenstown in New Zealand. He is a relentless cliff-hucker and frequent poster boy for the NZski.com resorts. Back-to-back winters still draw him back and forth across the equator.
Bontak has worked as a ski technician for over 15 years in Japan and New Zealand. He opened BONTAK in 2006 and continues his search for the perfect tune.
Aim as rider
It slides down in a mountain all over the world through taking a picture and the rally, it makes known in my limit, and the happiness of the challenge skiing is made known to the world.
